Dear Starbucks, Are We Still Friends?

15 Mar

Starbucks has unveiled its latest petite sugar bomb: The Cake Pop. Be still my beating heart.

Dear Starbucks,

A little birdie told me something: You are offering a new epicurean delight to your customers. It’s called a cake pop, but you already knew that, didn’t you?

I made a special trip to your fancy, recently remodeled location on Orange Avenue for a taste of this delicious goodness, and what did I find? Nothing. There was not a cake pop in sight.

Did you really think you could get away with this? Did you think I wouldn’t notice the considerable lack of cake pops in your shiny display case? Do you not know me at all?

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and forgive the oversight. Maybe there was some sort of disaster in your cake pop factory, which resulted in a cake pop shortage. It’s also possible that the cake pop truck overturned on the highway during its scheduled cake pop delivery. Or maybe, just maybe, a band of cake pop thieves intercepted the cake pop drop-off and they are being sold on the black market. Anything is possible when it comes to cake pops.

I don’t want this little incident to come between us, but just so you know: I’ll be back. You better not let this happen again. Or else.

Lots of Love,

Morgan

Housekeeping

28 Feb

I did some housekeeping on ye olde blog this weekend and I thought I would share some of the updates with you:

  • The chickens have their own blog. Yes, I know. It wasn’t my idea. They basically bitched and moaned and wore me down until I finally caved in and gave them a cyber space of their own. It’s called Ruling the Roost.
  • I have a professional blog now too. I’m trying to be all legit and stuff.
  • Finally, here is a link to an article I wrote about trying to track down some Girl Scout cookies. Don’t worry. I was finally able to secure some and they’ve been devoured. I’m just trying to do my job as a supporter of the youth, you know?

If you manage to find your way over to my two new blogs, could you let me know if anything looks wonky? I’ve been staring at my screen for the last three hours straight and I’m not sure I can read English anymore. Thanks guys!

How was your weekend? Have any of your own news to share with me?

Summer in January

21 Jan

I took this photo last Sunday- don't hate.

I’m re-directing you over to Coronado Patch today. The weekly post for my lifestyle blog “Following the Yellow Brick Road” is up. I have to warn you though: there’s some serious gloating going on over there about the amazing weather we’ve been having.

You may want to read my post for the following reasons: 1. You live here and will enjoy taking part in the boasting, 2. You live in a cold and snow-covered climate and need to escape- if only for a few minutes in your mind, or 3. Your spirit is as bitter as your winter weather and you need a reason to hate Southern Californians even more. Either way, stop by and leave a comment.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Ways to Meet Local Moms

14 Jan

Here is the most recent post for my column “Following the Yellow Brick Road” over at Coronado Patch. It is specific to the community, but you can easily insert your own local dwellings to get the same effect.

If you have time, leave a comment over there. I makes me look good. *wink, wink*

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Ways to Meet Local Moms

One of my biggest sanity savers is my arsenal of mom friends. After Emma was born, and I finally woke from the haze (well, let’s be honest here—I’ll never fully recover from the lack of  sleep), I knew that if I was going to survive this thing called “motherhood,” I needed to get me a posse of mom friends. I’ll be the first one to say it, there are only so many rounds of peek-a-boo and hours spent roaming the aisles of Target that a person can take.

If you are finding yourself in the same situation, it’s time to take action. Now is the moment! C’set la vie, or whatever.

Here are some of the best ways I have met other moms. And yes, I have done every single one of these.

Exciting News!

7 Jan

I am NOT pregnant. Hahahaha!

I have a new writing job!

I have a weekly lifestyle column called “Following the Yellow Brick Road” over at Coronado Patch. Patch is a hyperlocal online news source owned by AOL. The Patch sites provide extremely localized news, information about events, business listings, reviews, and discussions. Patch is the website you want to visit to find out exactly what is happening in your community.

If you aren’t familiar with Patch, you can get more information here. If you don’t have a Patch in your community yet, don’t be surprised if there is a Patch popping up soon. Here is the first post from Following the Yellow Brick Road. I hope you enjoy it.

Glory Days

Given the lack of babysitters on New Year’s Eve, my husband and his friends decided to celebrate the impending New Year with a good old fashioned game of touch football. Maybe it was the hint of promise that a new year always brings because it seems that 2011 is going to be the year of reliving the Glory Days of their youth. It sounds innocent enough: a group of seemingly healthy 30 to 40-something year old men getting together for a friendly, non-contact game of touch

football. Not so fast.

Behind their studly exteriors lie the remnants of old college baseball injuries, knee surgeries, tennis elbows, bad backs, and sprained ankles. Nothing says “Happy New Year” like a trip to the emergency room.

You can read the rest of the article here at Coronado Patch.

Have a great weekend everyone!
